This model features three motions — slew, luffing the jib, and hoisting the load. It is driven by a Como Drills RS540 motor to gearing as shown in the photos.
The jib is almost 2’ 6” long, and is made from girders, extended by 12½” strips and braced girders. The tower is 9½” high and 7½” square, built using girders, plates and braced girders.
Slewing is carried out by a 4” ball race and 133-tooth gear, driven by a 19-tooth pinion from the mechanism.
The load is hoisted by a single row block; a double row can be substituted easily (see general view).
At the present time the model does not travel. This is planned in the second phase of development.
