Woolwich Memorial Hospital Fete 1980

Sunday 10 August 1980

Well they say ‘third time lucky’, and it was on Sunday when we set up a mini-exhibition at the fete. It was sunny: For the past two years rain has tried to dampen (sorry) our efforts so it made quite a pleasant change to have fine weather.

According to the local paper crowds of up to 8,000 people filled the grounds, and a picture of our stall did appear in the Eltham Times and the Kentish Independent.

A good show of models was put on by our club and a list of those now follows:

John Adams - Dockside crane.

Adrian Ashford - Fire engine.

Stan and Bedford — Fork lift truck.

Paul Bedford — Traction engine, stationary steam engine and sports car.

Geoff Davison — Bottom dump truck; Anti-tank gun; Bluebird car; Racing car; Tractor.

David Smithers — 19th century factory steam engine.

Chris Warrell — Steam excavator.

John Westwood — Meccanograph and Gladstone pottery model.

Enterprising John Westwood charged 10p for each design people made on his Meocanograph. He then gave one third (£1.10p) to the club and the remainder to the hospital.

Thanks to everyone who took part. Thanks are also due to David Whitmore who arranged the tables for our stall. Without those we would have had to set our models on the grass since the Memorial Hospital could not supply any.
