Marlboro McLaren MPA

The tyres on this model come from a remote control car and are not correct for racing cars in detail but the size is right for this model and with wheel flanges and face plates I was able to make up the complete wheel.

Many of the controls on racing cars today are electronic, and the push button controls are mostly fitted to the steering wheel. These steering wheels cost 3,000 to produce. With an axle rod and narrow strip, rod adaptor, and a piece of aerial cable my one cost 2! The lights fitted to this steering wheel represent the electronic controls.

The car is powered by a M5 12V Meccano motor and is fitted with a differential. I have made a mock-up 8-cylinder super-charged Ford engine.
