Mobile Crane
Built by Jim MacCulloch in April 2013
This little model is designed to look as much as possible like the Coles mobile crane mounted on an AEC Matador chassis (in a rather grainy photo from The Engineer in 1945). This kind of crane was used extensively by the Army, the Royal Navy, and particularly by the RAF to ‘lift and shift’ wrecked aircraft and vehicles for recovery, repair or scrap.
I tried to get a reasonable likeness to the typical AEC cab of the time, which was wider than it was long and pretty ‘slab-sided’.
Winner of the 2013 Geoff Carter Cup.
