O Gauge Pacific Locomotive
Built by Ivor Ellard in April 2013 for the Hornby O Gauge Trains Secretary’s Challenge
I have often wondered why Frank Hornby never introduced railway wheels into the Meccano system. I would have thought that such a crossover would have benefited both systems.
However, the Swiss firm of Stoky did introduce railway wheels which are fully compatible with Meccano, and last year I was lucky enough to get some from Dave Taylor, and so here is the result.
At the moment it is little more than a mock up. I have to finish the design, and then rebuild in proper colours.
The power is transmitted to the wheels with a thrust bearing for the worm gear. This is the key part of this model.
I am going to try various kinds of streamlining and see which is the most effective; if I can’t achieve the compound curves, it will end up with a normal boiler.
