Owl

Built for the 2014 Eltham Centre display, this owl is copied from the announcement in the June 1957 issue of Meccano Magazine for a “Birds and Beasts” competition. This model, doubtless an entry in a previous similar competition, was used as an illustration. I modified it to make the wings flap! This is achieved by a mechanism of my own design, driven by a 6V motor. Bright orange grain-of-wheat bulbs also make the eyes also light up.
