Portable Water Bowser
Built by Peter Clay in June 2011 for the Other Systems Secretary’s Challenge
Made from Dinky Builder. This was made from the 1930s until 1962, in 3 periods. The parts I have, in blue and yellow (prophetic!) date from mid period. The rods, unlike later ones, are split along their length to grip the hinge joints. The health and safety issues involved in poking them out afterwards with the tool provided boggles the mind! As someone had chopped the “oblong” pieces in half I was limited in what I could make hence the 2-wheeled push-along I made.
No doubt it has play value and the hinge system enables the top to be opened and closed. The wheels have a rubber insert so they can be pushed on the rods but can rotate. I had a set for Christmas when I was about five, making this was a pleasant 50-year old nostalgia!
