Railway Breakdown Crane
Built by Guy Loveridge in September 2014
A 5’ long model of my own design. A single electric motor powers a gearbox, then two levers in the cab control power for the hoisting and luffing movements. The crane is capable of lifting scale loads, such as a loaded wagon.
The main bearing is my own design, made from 8 flanged wheels sandwiched by two hub discs. The flanged wheels are lock nutted to angle brackets on a 4” diameter ring made from 3” curved strips.
Other features include swivelling bogies, working outriggers, springs on the buffers, hinged cab doors, and rollers on the match truck for the jib to sit on.
