Reciprocal to Rotary Motion Mechanism
Built by Chris Fry in January 2007
A demonstration model showing how a shaft can be continuously driven by pulling and pushing a lever when opposed ratchet and pawls are linked through gearing. For smooth operation the pawls engage under gravity. Four pawls are arranged around each of the 2.5” gears so that at least one pawl will engage when the lever is operated.
This model seems to draw a lot of interest from kids of all ages when displayed.
