Skyrider Fairground Ride
Built by Brian Elvidge in May 2009
This is my version of a model built by Mike Fallows and shown at the Kew Bridge Steam Museum exhibition in 2009. It is not known whether the model is based upon an actual machine that tours the country.
It features two small big wheels on each end of a rotating arm. Each small wheel has six cars which rotate when the main arm moves.
The main arm itself is driven by a Stokys M2 20V motor to reduction gearing to the arm.
I found that the arm required the large axle rod system to eliminate bending of the arm’s main axle. The two small wheels are driven from the main axle by chains. This proves very reliable in service.
