Small Floating Crane
Built by David Smithers in April 2011
This freelance model was inspired by a model in the 1937–1948 set 9 instruction manual.
I have made the tower more robust, the jib is longer and there are twin luffing screws (I know universal couplings could never be used on the real thing, but model-makers licence, it makes life much simpler).
The movements will be sensibly powered by electric motors enclosed in suitable machinery housing. Flanged rings make an effective turn-table. The pontoon is slightly wider and a lot longer. I have assumed the vessel is not self-propelling, so I have omitted the superstructure. Bearings for wheels have been incorporated in the hope that in the future I will make a tugboat to pull it along.
