Small Hammerhead Crane
Built by David Smithers in April 2013
I wanted to build a model which did not use too many parts so that I could leave my Floating Crane intact.
Looking through the 1937–1948 set 9 instruction manual for inspiration, I came across this hammerhead crane. On careful inspection I became a little disappointed with this version, so I decided to make a freelance model of about the same size but to my own design. Here it is.
The construction is self-evident. The only section worthy of comment is the turntable, which is a design from one of Bert Love’s books.
Apart from connection wire and cord, the only non-Meccano parts as far as I am aware are two pieces of iron to act as counter balance weights and a few 4 BA nuts and bolts whose looser fit makes fixing of some of the bracing strips much easier.
