Speed Record Car

This model was copied from a photograph in an article in a magazine called Vintage Spirit. The article was one of a series on lesser-known engineers and was entitled “Frank Hornby — The Meccano Man”.
The caption accompanying the photograph was “Model speed record car made of Meccano parts c. 1950 on show at the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu”. Although no specific car was named, the shape and lines would suggest the model represents one of Sir Malcolm Campbell’s Bluebird series. He was almost unique in his day as he died from natural causes, unlike many of his counterparts who were killed attempting speed records.
