Station Truck
Built by Adrian Ashford in January 2016
This is the Station Truck featured in the Easy Model-Building section of the December 1955 issue of Meccano Magazine. It was built from the № 1 outfit of the time (1954–61) and powered by a Magic motor.
It is obviously based on the Lister petrol-driven truck which was produced before World War II for transporting goods around factories and warehouses and parcels and luggage on railway stations. It consisted of a single-wheel engine unit, pivoted to a semi-trailer and was able to haul one or more trailers.
I made some minor changes using extra parts, and it works very effectively. In fact, sometime in the 1930s Meccano Ltd. Organised a competition for building one of these trucks, with prizes offered jointly with the makers of the real thing.
