Steam Engine
Built by Brian Elvidge in January 2012
This model is taken from plans published in Constructor Quarterly by Andreas Konkoly in 1992 and it builds well, except for one area, the chimney stack construction, which relies on bending plastic plates to an acute angle. This causes many breakages as the builder’s stock is now very brittle. A solution is to use the long boiler available from Dave Taylor.
The model is powered, here by an E15R motor geared down to run the crankshaft. A previous version shown at the NELMC exhibition in December 2011 used a different motor.
This model can be built from set 10 parts with a few cosmetic modifications, as some of the bolts/nuts are very difficult to reach. The plans could have had better quality photos and are written up in a confusing manner.
