Tram
Built by Adrian Ashford in October 2008
This is based on an old № 3 outfit manual model. It has been somewhat modified and fitted with an electric motor, picking up the electric current via the track it runs on.
The semi-circuloar ends make good use of the recent spring steel type strips.
The rails are made from 24½” angle girders, bolted either side of a central angle girder, by means of insulating spacers, replicating the plough method of current collection, rather than from an overhead wire. Pick up is from the central angle girders via centrally-mounted pickups between the wheels. These consist of replica early-type ½” pulleys (smaller than the type that later became standard) mounted on pivoted 1½” narrow strips.
Control is from an electric speed controller in a Meccano box, together with 4 AA type batteries.
