Vintage Steam Saw
Built by Ralph Laughton in June 2013
I have always thought it would be good to use one of the early slotted flanged plates along with the Meccano saw blade to make a saw bench. While we are using pre-war parts, how about powering it with a 1929 pre-war steam engine?
The Steam Saw is built from pre-war Meccano and features one of the 1929 Meccano vertical boiler steam engines. It is worth noting I have used the pre-war 56/20-tooth gear/pinion combination that gives a 2.8:1 reduction, in the final drive to the chain sprocket. The saw blade is a genuine Meccano part (long obsolete) — it is a real saw blade which will cut thin wood, and if you are careless, fingers too!
