Voiture De Maitre Car

Designed by Dr. Keith Cameron and featured in issue 1 of Constructor Quarterly in September 1988, this model follows the general outlines of a miniature model by R. A. M. I. of a 1908 Panhard et Levassor Voiture de Maitre. It also bears resemblance to a Fiat taxicab, also of 1908. The radiator more closely follows the Fiat prototype, as does the rack for luggage on the roof. However, this model has two windows each side.

The model is 14 inches long and includes working steering, but is not powered.

Instructions for building it can be found in issue 47 of the Runnymede Meccano Guild Newsletter. I acknowledge that the instructions were well written and with the twelve detailed photographs made for very interesting modelling.

March 2026

This is the second time I have tackled this build (see later photos) as I think that the overall appearance is very pleasing. But this time I have given the passenger compartment opening doors and glazed windows.

In addition I have used black angle brackets (on the luggage rack) this time as advocated by Dr. Cameron as they were not available to me previously.
