Weight-Driven Motor
Built by Chris Fry in September 2015 for the Novel Motor Secretary’s Challenge
This motor was inspired by the № 2 Meccano Clock Kit which I built as a teenager. The boiler is filled with spare nuts and bolts and acts via chain on the single sprocket. A 125:1 step-up gear train drives the air vane which regulates the speed. Power take-off is at the 5:1 shaft but could be arranged to be at 1:1 or 25:1 depending on the model to be driven. In the current configuration the motor runs for just over 2 minutes on a typical height table.
