The Eiffel Tower
Built by Guy Loveridge in January 2024 for the Weather Forecasting Secretary’s Challenge
When the Eiffel Tower was built, at the top there was a weather station with extensive scientific equipment.
The model is about 8’ tall and about 1” lower than the ceiling in my house. In my opinion, my model has more accurate proportions and details than the Eiffel Tower in the № 10 set instructions.
The model does not have working lifts, partly because to be the correct scale each lift car would be ½” high — too small to be practical. Also, the model splits into three parts for ease of transportation, another complication for working lifts.
The model has a French flag at the top, made from blue, white and red plates. This detail is historically accurate — the Eiffel Tower did at one time have a flag.
