Micro Block-Setting Crane
Built by Chris Warrell in June 2026
This was built for the 2026 Geoff Carter Cup. In the 1990s I built a mini version of the classic Giant Block-setting Crane (SML 4), but mine had a boom length of 12½” instead of 5 feet!
This new “micro” version has a boom length of just 7½” with the tower 1½” square. The upper part of the boom is a pair of Narrow Angle Girders which the trolley is able to run on.
Trolley and hoisting are both hand operated.
- The mini version is 1/5 of SML4
- This micro version is 1/8 of SML4
At the SELMEC summer meeting this model won the Geoff Carter Cup — the first time I’ve won a Meccano model building competition!
