Experimental Meccano Steam Engine
Built by Allen Berman in June 2011
A combination of:
- Meccano Horizontal Steam Engine boiler frame.
- Mamod O gauge garden railway double-acting piston assemblies with reverse.
- Tubal Cain’s design for a vertical boiler.
- Non-standard shafts and gears.
This project was started by a gentleman called Ian Cornish (who is sadly no longer with us). The boiler required some extra silver soldering and having all of the fittings made. The remaining items to be made are a sight glass and boiler cladding. Currently, the heat source is butane, but this might change to Sterno (Gel Meths).
The system has been steamed (approx 25psi) and is very powerful.
