This was one of our informal quarterly meetings where our members showed off their latest Meccano creations.
At around 2:00pm we had a short committee meeting, followed by the Model Tour in which members were invited to give a short talk about their models — in particular their entries for the Secretary’s Challenge!
The Live Steam Secretary’s Challenge
This Challenge is to construct any model and power it with a live steam engine.
The Meccano steam engine was introduced in 1914, but this was an imported item. The classic Meccano steam engine was first brought out in 1929 and would cost you 21 shillings back then (£1.05; now £350+ on eBay). The steam engine was reintroduced in 1965, this time manufactured by Mamod and this had a horizontal boiler.
We might have to go outside to run them — I’ll check first!
