Woodpecker
Built by Peter Clay in June 2007 for the Natural World Secretary’s Challenge
A woodpecker on a branch that pecks its way down a tree trunk (or axle rod), making a tapping sound.
This is achieved through a flexible coupling unit vibrating in a handrail coupling which slides down the axle rod.
The woodpecker (pawl, fork piece, handrail support, 1” rod) is mounted on the coupling unit.
A minimalist model — it uses only two nuts and bolts!
