The Great Panjandrum
Built by Les Chatfield in September 2019 for the D-Day Secretary’s Challenge
The Great Panjandrum, was a massive, rocket-propelled, explosive-laden wheel designed by the British military during WWII.
It was one of a number of highly experimental projects, including Hajile and the Hedgehog that, were developed by the Admiralty’s Directorate of Miscellaneous Weapons Development (DMWD) in the final years of the war.
The Great Panjandrum was never used in battle.
My photos show my model Panjandrum on a visit to Saltdean Beach.
