South East and Chatham Railway Crane Tank Locomotive
Built by Les Chatfield in March 2021
This is a (fairly) accurate representation of a South East and Chatham Railway Crane Tank Locomotive. Being outside the loading gauge they were usually seen in loco sheds or works yards being the steam equivalent of a fork lift truck.
This model is fully functional with a small Meccano 6V motor hidden in the ‘steam engine’ behind the crane axis (loco chimney). It is also self propelled by means of a Meccano PDU. It is displayed on sunken tramway-style track typical of tracks seen in loco sheds etc. It is also fitted with my modified ‘spun’ 3” pulley flanged wheels.
