4–4–0 Express Locomotive

No book on the pre-grouping railways would be complete without at least one photograph of a 4–4–0 express loco rushing its train through the British countryside. For me, these locos define this era, with their long slim boilers, large driving wheels, high splashers and a long front overhang. So it was an inevitable choice for this particular Secretary’s Challenge. Searching my modest (?) collection of railway books turned up a few photos in profile that I could take measurements from, so the model doesn’t represent any particular class, rather an average.
