Hand Generator Powered Car
Built by Brian Elvidge in January 2002
As the title suggests, this model uses the hand generator marketed by Meccano from 1970 until circa 1978/9.
The car is of my own design. For a model plan please see the detailed article on this model in our Articles section.
The second photo shows an improved version of the model. This model is a lot more complicated. It is powered by the MO motor driving the rear axle by gearing and a differential gear. This axle is also sprung, by using spring shock absorbers.
The front of this model has been completely redesigned to incorporate a steering system to the front wheels, controlled by a steering wheel.
The choice of gearing depends upon the models usage — the constructor has found by experimentation the model as shown works well.
The third photo shows a slightly modified version of the model. The model features a differential and steering gear.
