The British Rail 1972 Secretary’s Challenge
This Challenge took place at our September 2020 Meeting
This Challenge was a very personal one for me. On the day of the September 2020 meeting I retired from my train driving job with South Eastern Railway.
It was also 48 years (and a day!) since I started as a trainee civil engineer with British Rail. (I had a change of career about half way through with a two year gap from the railways, which I’ll gloss over!)

Anyway, the Challenge was to build a model that represents British Rail in 1972.
Members were free to build a particular loco, building, bridge, curly sandwich (a favourite joke of every ’70s comedian) or any other railway-related thing from the 1970s.
