British Railways Scammell Scarab Mechanical Horse
Built by John Gay in September 2020 for the British Rail 1972 Secretary’s Challenge
Three ton and six ton versions of this vehicle were produced by Scammell between between 1948 and 1967 in red and cream livery for British Railways. Towards the end of their time in use the livery changed to Railfreight yellow.
In the 1970s I worked at Liverpool Street Station in London driving these vehicles.
This model is based on a model in a 1950s № 9 Outfit manual.
