This is one of our informal quarterly meetings where our members show off their latest Meccano creations.
Light refreshments will be available and our resident Meccano dealer Ted Muggridge will have new and used parts for sale.
At around 2:00pm we will have a short committee meeting, followed by the Model Tour in which members are invited to give a short talk about their models — in particular their entries for the Secretary’s Challenge!
You are welcome to come along to view the models and chat to our members. If you want to bring along a model of your own, we’d love to see it! Only if you attend our meetings regularly will you be asked to pay our annual subscription charge.
The Squares Secretary’s Challenge
This Challenge comes from Richard Marsden. 2025 is a ‘square’ year — 2025 equals 45 squared. The last time this happened was 1936; the next time will be 2116. So most people will only ever experience one such year.
He, therefore, has set a Challenge on the theme of ‘squares’. This could be a model with a square footprint, a steam engine with a cylinder bore equal to its stroke, a mechanism with the main parts in a square (like a bevel-geared differential, for example), a square-rigged sailing ship… He’s sure other members could come up with other ideas; some could be quite way-out!
